Good stuff dude..I got the error after altering GRUB in Ubuntu (earlier, the Dual boot option never came up). I guess it if fixed once and for all now. Thanks. .. happily donated as requested
Thanks Miles - a great solution. My system is now working 100%, and I'm very happy. It pays to be veerryy careful when working with GRUB!! Donation as suggested will be sent directly.
just got done sending you $10 (i wish it could be more). your fix was fast and easy and not nearly as complicated as others i found. thanx loads, i appreciate it!!!
Problem seemed to be caused by an interrupted program removal. I was facing an XP reinstall when I found your solution. It got my PC working in 5 minutes. Donation to follow. Paul from The Villages, FL

Thankyou. I downloaded the CD iso and followed your clear instructions. Don't know what I did to caude the problem but I got back into windows and used system restore to roll back 24 hours - works great again. Thankyou. Happily made a donation.
Wow, thanks! Removed an extra hard drive, the one that was left was drive D: and XP decided to stop booting. Your page came to the rescue: the steps for creating a bootable USB drive and recovering were right on. Happy to donate!
Fantastic... just when i was thinking of re installing everything ( my pet hate ) I will be adding the boot cd version to my collection as a must. Not one for using paypal but my email for your address is on its way..
OMG, life saver! I lost my XP CD and CD Key, so I could not reinstall. Only thing I wish is that it was easier to find your site. I spent hours trying to find something like this. I imagine it wasn't that hard to put together, but it is impossible to find help for. Donation to follow.
it worked option number 5.... NOTE I HAD TO COPY THE CONTENTS OF THE CD(BOOT DISK) TO ALL PARTITIONS IN ORDER FOR IT TO GET WORKING.... my boot files were missing(i guessing it was a virus)...
Great, searched on google for ntldr missing and you were first hit. Had tot do some tricky things to get a seperated Vista/XP boot menus 1 vista install/2 XPs 32/64 bit and easybcd made this a lot easyer without doing it the hard way using bcdedit
I have been going through so many hoops to restore my OS, you're fix is the most progress I've had at gaining access to my hard drive once again! It's on now. Much thanks!
My God, my computer has been out of action for so long and at last thanks to you, its now up and running!! So easy to do, even for a dizzy blonde!! :-)
Thank YOU THANK YOU! I wasted hours repeatedly reinstalling a Ghost Image that for some reason would not boot. Tried everything except for the right thing. Your website saved the day and if I'd have looked earlier you would have saved me several hours. This (you) is what the Internet is all about!
I left you a $10 which is nothing compared to the time you saved me. There should be more web sites like yours, offering solutions and with a donate button at the end. But you should make a stronger case for the donation. I think you deserve it.
Thank you very much for this tool. It helped me recover my virtual-machine windows install. I am sorry I can't donate, as I'm a student, and $ -> Rs. conversion is too steep.
Dude, you just saved me at least 6 hours of hard work,if i could help you right now witha a donation i would, but im broke, thats why im repairing these PC's,god know i have been able to donate in another times, and belive me,has soon has i can ill make my donation :)
Many thanks, I have made a donation. Ran Glary Utilities late last night then shutdown. Started system at 3am to check email and got the NTLDR missing message. Found your site with my 98SE nostalgia gaming machine and it was easy from there. Thanks again
thanks from this housewife... was worried about keyloggers, viruses, spyware, all that 20th century stuff we worry about for computers... but gave your suggestions a go... all's well and thanks to you, Mr Smart and Helpful... you will make a great computer husband (if you are not already) *hugs*
Most excellent. I removed a spare drive (C:) and got the error. My fault for rushing and not setting up my drives correctly to begin with. Kudos and bless you!
I really wish I had the money to donate, because you saved my butt! I moved files trying to be organized and messed everything up. Normally my husband is the computer whizz but he wasn't here, so I really appreciate it!!
I wish I could donate but it is just not possible right now. Your fix worked 100% and kept me from having to take an expensive service call that I absolutely couldn't afford. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. I have a wounded hard drive on my laptop, and by fooling around trying to tweak it, I must have lost some files. This was a big help, and I was glad to make a contribution.
Great Documentation. I was about ready to create a solution to fix my daughters computer 2000 mi away and found your site. Was about to send her a CD and get everything repaired in 20 mins on the phone with her. Your instructions are very easy to follow. ...johnt...
This worked perfectly for me. I think spyware got into my boot files and when I used my spyware remover it took out the files needed to boot. Got my computer up and running with this in 10 minutes. Thanks alot!!
THANK YOU - YOU SAVED ME. I was trying to clean my overloaded drive by deleting duplicate files and deleted/moved the file. I used a USB and this soloution worked for me when I thought I had completely trashed my computer. Highly recommended, thanks again. David
SECOND time my computer crashed trying to install Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 10 but this time I could get into Windows without losing data or having to reinstall WinXP. Great site!
Got the error after "cleaning" hard drive. Had the error before on a older PC that the only solution was a complete reinstall. So of course I dreaded losing files on my notebook and the whole time consuming process of a reinstall. Your solution worked as described. Thank you so much and $$$$$ are on the way via Paypal
So pleased!!!! Real difficulties with my Acer Travelmate. Got the dreaded message after a virus. Acer don't provide recovery disks, it's all in the hard drive. How stupid is that. Oh, I forgot - Acer charge £50 for a recovery disk and £70 to "re-image". ($100 / $140). Mmmmmmmm.
You freakin roooooooooooooooock! It's 1:45 am on 09/17/2008, I'm out cold and the phone rings. On the other end, BT, local DJ at our Rock station WKLC ( wklc.com ) The music server is down hard, ntldr missing. 30 minutes later I'm on site and try using XP Pro install disk to repair Windows - no luck - sees no prior Windows install. 1 Google search, blank CD-R, and 2 downloads later, it's up - thanks to you - 300,000K rock fans will start the day without ever knowing what happened. My donation pales in comparison to our gratitude. Thank you - very much! PC REPAIR wvpcrepair.com
Thanks alot...for creating this...i accidentally deleted the ntldr file on my pc....but thisworked wonders...my mom would have killed me if her laptop was not working...THANK YOU...THANK YOU...and THANK YOU!!!=D
Thank you so much Miles. Donation sent as requested.
It's been a fun morning, the keyboard on the laptop was faulty so couldn't get into BIOS, therefore added a USB keyboard, once I was in, the comp refused to boot from the USB, I couldn't use the CD solution because my emergency computer was WIN2000 and the ISO burner doesn't have a WIN2000 version (any chance you could recommend an ISO burner for WIN2000 for others in my position) eventually I found another great program BART PE which is a bare bones operating system on CD and used it to copy the files from the USB to the root folder, your explanation for editing the boot.ini file was clear and once I'd got into the computer using Bart, i was able to see the folder was WINXPPRO, changed the boot.ini file, saved it direct into the root folder along with NTLDR and NTLDETECT.COM, restarted and option 3 was the charm. I've now edited the boot.ini to use option 3 as default and the laptop starts like normal. All of this from a computer NEWB, just proves how good your explanation is. Many thanks again.
amazing... Your CD is magic. Everytime Ntdlr matter happen to me, i need one hour to solve it. With your cd i can solve it in 30seconds! (the third option worked for me)
Thanks so much man, I've been looking to make a different hard drive my master boot, and this did the trick! I'm unemployed as of right now, but will get a job in the next week or so. I've bookmarked your site so I can make some donations to you! Thanks for your effort in creating this little fix!
Very Cool! My Moms computer crashed and you were the second link in a google search and you saved us A LOT of money... The local repair guy wanted to replace the entire hard drive for an "NTLDR MISSING" error. Only took 10 minutes to replace and I didn't lose any of my existing files.
Just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for your help! Wish I would have found you sooner and before I spent hours and hours trying to fix my PC. You will find a small token donation accordingly. Again thanks for the help and expertise. Seems to me you should find a way to package your fixes and sell them on a much broader and easier found site. Best to you......
It did work !! wow !! My son's PC would not boot to a Vista install CD because the NTLDR was missing, I am installing a fresh copy of Vista. He has an AMD socket 939 on an ASUS board. I think that is why I couldn't use only the Vista install CD, it's AMI BIOS...I think.... I installed a fresh copy of Vista on my PC about 6 months ago and did not need a bootable floppy nor did I have the NTLDR is missing problem. Thanks again.
Dude, your program saved me A LOT of time and trouble at work today! Helped a professor get back to his laptop hard drive so he could access the final exams he is giving tomorrow! Thank you so much for this "old program." Looks like it has helped out many people, so we're all grateful.
Donation sent as requested. Wish I could give more. Happy Holidays!
Thank you sooooo much. my power went out while doing an editing project when i couldn't reboot all of a sudden and your steps and program fixed everything! This works 100% and you are the man Miles!
Note to all: DO NOT think its a good idea to fall asleep with your Ipod updating. You will wake up at night at turn your computer off on accident and DESTROY your computer.
hey yo thanks yo you got my neck saved yo. loads of files recovered yo. i thought reformatting was the only solution but hey it worked yo. thanks yo may God replace your goodness yo. thanks again.
Thanks so much! I go this error after a Windows Update.. I thought I'd have to reformat my hard drive and would have lost my wedding photos! Your instructions were clear and easy to follow! Thanks again!
Just to say thanks a lot for the help, my sons laptop was unuseable because he had deleted the ntldr file by mistake and as it had no cd, dvd or floppy drive I was unable to use the recovery DVD nthat came with it and I was a bit stumped as to how to fix it, The usb version of your application worked great on the 2nd attempt and I was able to replace the missing files and get the laptop working just fine again.
I can confirm to any1 and every1 that the downloads are what they say they are and do the job they are supposed to. A lot of people probably end up paying a lot of money to PC repair men to fix this problem when there is an easy to use solution freely available to any1 able to use a search engine.
You are a prince! I accidentally deleted the ntldr file with some other junk and thought I was toast. Couldn't find my XP disk but found your site. Couldn't get the USB option to work last night (no doubt my fault), but today I tried the CD method and Bingo! on the first try. Once I get everything backed up and working properly on my main computer I intend to make a very worthwhile PayPal donation. Thanks again.
Just came across your site while working on a family members PC. I’m sure you know the feeling of relief I got when I came across a solution that worked. That solution was yours. This is a most valuable ISO that I will be keeping as part of my fix-it collection from now on. Great work. Should you want to update your main website design, I would be happy to offer my web design services as a donation for the solution that you provided me. Feel free to email me if you want to discuss this further. Cheers.
Miles.. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your article on how to fix your computer when yiu get the NTLDR message and the computer will not boot up!
For no reason that I am aware of this happened to me on Friday morning! We spent all day asking our frineds that are in the computer business... what to do.. we tried everything with no success.
I then went on my hubbys computer.. and googled everthing I could find.. till I found your site!
I did what you said about making the cd..etc... then my husband took over... and tried it to no avail... the screen never came up with the choices, and after 8 hours he gave up!
I sat down.. with the cd in.. and as it booted .. I just kept hitting F lock and F12.. welllaaa! the screen came up! I told it to boot from the cd.. it did.. then I hit the TRY THIS one FIRST.. and my puter totally booted up!
I immediately backed up my entire hard drive to my Maxtor external hard drive.
Each time I rebooted.. I had to go thru the steps above.. but that was ok with me! I for now had my puter back!
Well. when I went to bed last night.. all night I kept waking up thinking.. " there must something I am missing or did not do". So when I got up this morning we went back to your site.. and I read further down.. to where it said to copy those files into the C: drive.. I did that.. rebooted without the disk, and it now boots beautifully!
I want to thank you for taking the time to write that article or blog... on how to resolve my issue as well as many other peoples.
My hubby and his friend are going to put a new hd into my puter today.. and make my old hard drive... this one I am using that had the error.... the SLAVE.. so that I can still access my things.
Do you have any clue what would have caused that Ntldr error in the first place?
Again I really appreciate your help in helping me to get my puter up and running... Have a great day! Jo-Anna
I formatted my Vista on c: as I wanted to restore a stable version of Acronis Vista backup on it. I had XP Pro on d: from where I planned on restoring my Vista backup on c:. But after formatting c: the sys wouldnt boot at all because of the bootmanager and other boot files were on c:. Your tools made it possible for me to boot my XP and restore a stable version of Vista back to c: using Acronis. Thank you very much for your tools mate!
Whoever you guys are, you're my saviour!! I burned the cd and presto, the computer that had the problem booted up! I did have to make sure that I went into the BIOS to set up the sequence with the computer booting from CD first. Other than that, you guys saved my butt!!
Thanks SO MUCH for posting this fix. While I'm probably going to have to reformat and reinstall XP, the boot disk is letting me use the PC in the meantime and, even more importantly, is letting me copy my important files that I had not previously backed up.
OMFG!!! thank you sooo much ....i never thought someone as inexperienced as myself would have been capable of sorting out this error (Great instructions!)
After my comp returned to normal i wuz hoping you had an e-mail or a paypal so i could send u a thank you.... "low and behold" you had that taken care of too!
Great little helpdesk you created, man! You're in my bookmarks now!
Norton Ghost decided to screw me, and I got rid of the kind of boot loop it had me in writing a new bootsector, but then had the ntldr error. One burn of your CDR-based fix, and "First try this" worked on the first try!
That thing is working like hell. That's what we call intelligent brains at work. How I wish I had known you earlier. I have to bookmark you for future reference.
It took only one minute to fix it. The first option did it. I went straight to the recycle bin and the file ntldr was comfortably resting there. Immediately restored it, restarted the system and the system was good than ever. Somebody must have unintentionally, or sabotage, or whatever, deleted that file, ntldr.
I am in Nairobi, Kenya, and in the meantime I will see what I can do for your good gesture. Surely, I genuinely appreciate the help you have done to me, especially the amount of hours saved, and of course I have a new tool to keep.
Amazing! This happened in my home computer and thought i was dead. Luckily i had a spare blank cd and a brand new laptop, so i was able to perform all the tasks. If i was over 18 or had my own credit card i would definitely donate!
Thank you so much! I was trying to experiment with dual booting when I got the error message. Funny thing, I passed by this website several times before I actually decided to try the flash drive method. Thanks again!
Thank you for your help. Our problem came from our four-year old deleting a file he found when he opened windows explorer! We had a severe panic, but rebooted using your cd iso, then copied the ntdlr file from the cd we'd created. Rob from England.
BRAVO! THANKYOU SO MUCH! I couldnt afford to take my pc tp the shop, thanks to you it is running again, even better thn before...cant donate right now bt will! stephen
WORKED PERFECTLY! I'm about to start some online grad classes and really needed to get this freaking thing moving. Now it works just as before after I tried to view hidden files in C:/ and saw that the NTLDR file was indeed missing. Many thanks to you! You saved my wife and I time shopping for a new computer this week!!
Miles; Thank you. Even though I know I could recreate what you did - you did it in such a simple package it was great! (I was using partition commander (not pqmagic or easus - another 1!)to partition an external drive and it forced a reboot - messing up the MBR of the main computer.) Of course with modern OEM xp installs there was no handy USB boot disk around - so I made one with yours - and then did not even have to manipulate the ini file since you provided the batch file. I will be forwarding your site to my friends. Have sent in $25 for your time saving and 'elegant' solution. Cheers; Jack.
I started out with a ctrl+alt+del and not having the ability to start. Than after doing a fix boot and a fixcfg I ended up with NTLDR missing, found your site. You are the best. I left you a tip via paypal. Thanks you da man! If you have more fixes I like to know for you never know when you need them Thanks again.
@matt34452: I try and put up any solutions online. Either on my website or post it to the forum/blog that is one of the top results on google. Hopefully this helps us all share and find answers faster :-)
Man this totally worked and saved me at least 30 hours rebuilding my system. I donated $5 to you!!!
I was upgrading a hard drive and trusted Ghost to have my back. WRONG. Ghost would have nothing to do with the drive image I made yesterday. XP couldn't do a repair install for whatever reason. I was destined to nuke it and rebuild and then spend days reloading and reconfiguring everything. But I came across your site, thought "it can't hurt" and it worked like a charm.
Thanks so much hun ur amazing. This was so easy to do and worked well. Truely I thank u cuz that old pc was about to be put out for the trash. Thanks again... god bless ya hun
the steps were very clear but i ran into a problem, I made a Flash Drive boot and it went right to the first screen where you press Y but it did not come up with the list of 10 on restart ,just a blank screen. Would be very thankful for advice
@Anonymous Who Said: "the steps were very clear but i ran into a problem, I made a Flash Drive boot and it went right to the first screen where you press Y but it did not come up with the list of 10 on restart ,just a blank screen. Would be very thankful for advice"
I don't have a good answer for you, perhaps try a different usb stick. (you can also email me and we can try and work on it some more, I can't email you back because I don't have your email address)
Brother if I were not as broke as you I'd send ya more than 5 bucks. I almost paid staple 100 and all I want the old junk for is to run linux on. It did take me 3 days, but i'm a slow learner.
You are a genius!!! Thank you so much. I spent over a month trying to use recovery discs from the manufacturer, and they all failed. Heading over to PayPal now...
THANK YOU. I tried "Wubi" - which Ubuntu site plugs as "It can install and uninstall Ubuntu in the same way as any other Windows application. It's simple and safe." - simple and safe?? what a LOAD. This Wubi ruined my machine. Your article saved it! Thank you much!
Sad to say it didnt work for me.Every time i restart it asks to press tab to see bios post.If i press tab a page is seen for a very short moment and it reverts back to the page saying press alt+ctrl+del to restart.Even using windows(xp sp3) for repairing had the same result.Any suggestions?
@Anonymous: If you need to reply back, leave an email, or just email me: milescomer @ gmail . com
You mentioned that you could press Tab but it wouldn't go into the BIOS. Try plugging in a different external keyboard. I have seen problems with wireless keyboards not being able to get into the bios.
You also mentioned you were able to try xp sp3, so perhaps you can boot from CD without having to change the BIOS, perhaps try making the CD-R fix and using it (You didn't say which you were using, but I'm guessing you are trying the usb fix)
EArly morning blues resolved by you.....thank you form UK.... superstar.....top banana etc....skint but will donate when get paid....thank you tony@ourmortgagecircle.co.uk
Many thanks! I was trying to dual boot with linux, but not only was I unable to perform the dual boot, but I wasn't able to enter Xp, as well. It took me some time to get it working, but I managed to boot properly!
Got this message in the middle of the night, not a happy camper, googled on another laptop and found your page. It looked daunting but this morning step by step I did it! The USB didn't work for some reason but the CD was perfect! and I am not a geek.
Err... I'm having problems. After I press Y and reboot, the screen turns to a single blinking cursor at the top left hand corner and nothing else. No options. No 1 to 10. What do I do?
I'm not sure why but the blinking cursor means its trying to boot off the usb drive (which is good) but not succeeding (which is bad). I would say: # Try making it again: http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrmoreinfo/usbscreenshots.htm # Try a different USB drive # Try the CD solution (if your broken computer has a CD drive) # Go ahead and move on to the backup solution of pulling the drive, backing up the contents, and reinstalling. Sorry :-(
Hey what should I do if I get the message "Windows has disabled direct disk access to protect your long filenames" after I boot up the flash drive and press Y? Thanks
My dad had completely messed up his computer, and I spent hours getting around this problem - to no avail. But then I came across your site and to my astonishment "3RD TRY THIS" worked as a charm and the computer booted into Windows.
Do you still want donations? I feel like you deserve a Nobel Peace Prize or something.
@Magnus I still love to get donations :-) it helps finance the site and pays for my energy drinks; and nothing says "What you did was valuable" more than giving me something that has value to you (money)
You are some sort of god. Your face is the dread visage of an avenging angel, full bathed in the warm glow of righteousness. Your eyes are the purest amber, and your skin makes small children weep nostalgically for better days.
You guessed it, I don't have any money to give you. But as some small token of my appreciation for you, please feel free to print the above paragraph out and display it on your wall, your tshirt, or a large bumper sticker.
@Robin Wow! Thanks :-) I'll have to put that up in my office.
@anonymous post on 1/11/11 I found out that that error comes up when the boot usb disk does not recognize the disks in the order i "assumed" they would be in. I have put updated step by step instructions here: http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrmoreinfo/usbscreenshots
Thankyou. It took me about half an hour to do. Very well explained, and I think it's great that you've put this advice up. You're a good person for doing that. Thankyou.
Great job man! Worked for me with the second solution, and with the usb boot. I will donate, you deserve it! Just out of curiosity, what is the 2nd solution actually? what was my problem?
Computer wouldn't boot, black screen with blinking white cursor. FixNTLDR got me in, Combofix and Malware Bytes got rid of fake WindowsRepair, then used WXP CD, in Repair modeto do FIXMBR and FIXBOOT.

Dude, I was Freaking out. I thought I lost all my crap on my hard drive. Years and years of stuff. But your instructions worked, thanks!
Just what we needed! Thanks a million!
Thanks a million, your instructions worked perfectly, you saved my life. thanks again!!!!
Great Documentation. I was about ready to create a solution to fix my daughters computer 2000 mi away and found your site. Was about to send her a CD and get everything repaired in 20 mins on the phone with her. Your instructions are very easy to follow. ...johnt...
Thanks Miles, another computer saved! Our donation is on the way!
This worked perfectly for me. I think spyware got into my boot files and when I used my spyware remover it took out the files needed to boot. Got my computer up and running with this in 10 minutes. Thanks alot!!
Thanks very much!!
A friend of mine had moved the ntldr file to another folder and this sorted it out straight away.
THANK YOU - YOU SAVED ME. I was trying to clean my overloaded drive by deleting duplicate files and deleted/moved the file. I used a USB and this soloution worked for me when I thought I had completely trashed my computer. Highly recommended, thanks again.
David
Superb, worked 1st time, I can confirm it works on XP64 just fine.

SECOND time my computer crashed trying to install Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 10 but this time I could get into Windows without losing data or having to reinstall WinXP.
Great site!

paul
thanks a lot...it really worked for me.. i thought ill hire a technician to fix it.. but i solved with your help.
Friend got this error. Completely stumped me. Then I ran across your info. Worked like a charm. Thanks man
Got the error after "cleaning" hard drive.
Mmmmmmmm.
Process worked very well. Thanks much for the work in figuring it out and maintaining the site. Donation made.
You freakin roooooooooooooooock!
It's 1:45 am on 09/17/2008, I'm out cold and the phone rings. On the other end, BT, local DJ at our Rock station WKLC ( wklc.com )
The music server is down hard, ntldr missing.

Everytime Ntdlr matter happen to me,
i need one hour to solve it.
With your cd i can solve it in
30seconds!
(the third option worked for me)
Really worked with my old desktop. Lol. Gotta replace the hard drive with a new one though. But i got to back up the important files. Thanks a bunch!
Thank very much! it's really working to my desktop computer.
Now i safe my documents and safe a lot of time for reinstallation.

Just wanted to say a huge "Thank you" for posting the most comprehensive set of instructions which solved my problem very quickly.
excellent fix, only wish I'd found it before spending a couple of hours reading microsoft's gibberish
Thx a lot bro..
Its working...

Used the CD-R option to fix my missing NTLDR problem. Worked at first try! Brilliant!
I join a long list of grateful people! Thanks Miles!
YOU SAVED ME SO MUCH TIME! THANK YOU! DONATED AS REQUESTED!
Thanks so much! I go this error after a Windows Update.. I thought I'd have to reformat my hard drive and would have lost my wedding photos! Your instructions were clear and easy to follow! Thanks again!
thank you so much, this made my life a billion times easier!
Thank you, you saved my life :)
Worked perfectly, thank you so much!
thank u! :)
Ow yeah, got a error after restoring a ghost-image of an xp. Thanks a lot.
Cheers.
Thank you so much, this works great :)
Thank you, thank you. Worked like a champ. Saved me having to wait on others to fix my PC for me.
Jo-Anna
you da man
Miles Comer you are a live saver!
Thank you so much,
Rick
Thanks SO MUCH for posting this fix. While I'm probably going to have to reformat and reinstall XP, the boot disk is letting me use the PC in the meantime and, even more importantly, is letting me copy my important files that I had not previously backed up.
I've happily made a PayPal donation.
What a great service you have performed.
Five stars to you guys..
Many thanks.
Thanks a lot mate! "3rd try this" saved my ass. Sorry I'm so skint or I'd definately donate the five dollars. Thanks again tho

Many thanks.
WOW! Thank you so much! Your tutorial fixed my "Missing NTLDR" problem! Yay! You helped me help myself :)
OMFG!!! thank you sooo much ....i never thought someone as inexperienced as myself would have been capable of sorting out this error (Great instructions!)
After my comp returned to normal i wuz hoping you had an e-mail or a paypal so i could send u a thank you.... "low and behold" you had that taken care of too!
Thank you sooo very much
Great little helpdesk you created, man! You're in my bookmarks now!
Norton Ghost decided to screw me, and I got rid of the kind of boot loop it had me in writing a new bootsector, but then had the ntldr error. One burn of your CDR-based fix, and "First try this" worked on the first try!
Thanks man, helped me fixed my sister's com. I don't have a credit card or chequebook, but I'll bug her to send a donation =)
Thank you so much, your solution saved the day! It always seems like the world ends when your computer breaks!
Hi Miles! Thanks for this quick fix. It saved me a big hassle!
"I love you dude"
Miles you are the best! Your instructions and files worked perfectly. Thank you and best wishes to you!
I know know what caused my problem. I uninstalled a software and it erased this files in the process.
Luckily the help from this webpage was so great that I am back to my school work without having to reinstall everything.
Thank you Miles!!!!
Thank you so much for the help +++rep. You are the man! From: Chris in New Orleans, LA

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAVING MY COMPUTER!!!
I LOVE YOU~!!!
Amazing! This happened in my home computer and thought i was dead. Luckily i had a spare blank cd and a brand new laptop, so i was able to perform all the tasks. If i was over 18 or had my own credit card i would definitely donate!
This is such a simple fix! Thanks so much for your solution. Fixed my problem twice!
Thanks !! It helped!!!
YES. THANKS maaaannn =)
I love you man. Damn... I hope I can donate sometime soon. This is incredible. Incredible.
Thanks for the fixntldr utility. Back on the air! Sent you a donation. Johnfull
hallelujah!!!! your fix worked like magic. i'm just a student so i can't leave a donation...yet.but thanks a lot for your site; keep it up!!!
Miles;
Thank you.
Even though I know I could recreate what you did - you did it in such a simple package it was great!
(I was using partition commander (not pqmagic or easus - another 1!)to partition an external drive and it forced a reboot - messing up the MBR of the main computer.)
Of course with modern OEM xp installs there was no handy USB boot disk around - so I made one with yours - and then did not even have to manipulate the ini file since you provided the batch file.
I will be forwarding your site to my friends.
Have sent in $25 for your time saving and 'elegant' solution.
Cheers;
Jack.
It really worked!
Many, many thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks so much hun ur amazing. This was so easy to do and worked well. Truely I thank u cuz that old pc was about to be put out for the trash. Thanks again...
god bless ya hun
Thankyou soooo much. Got my rig up & running again. Well done.

THANK YOU. I tried "Wubi" - which Ubuntu site plugs as "It can install and uninstall Ubuntu in the same way as any other Windows application. It's simple and safe." - simple and safe?? what a LOAD. This Wubi ruined my machine. Your article saved it! Thank you much!

Thanks alot dear..
Hey!
many many thanks!
it really helped me
thank u!
i wish i could leave u something
don't think i'm not going to
thanks !
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
It did indeed help me to find the solution that worked for my pc.
EArly morning blues resolved by you.....thank you form UK.... superstar.....top banana etc....skint but will donate when get paid....thank you
tony@ourmortgagecircle.co.uk
This is the second time your fix has saved my butt. Hope the donation helps. Thank you!!!!!!
Many thanks! I was trying to dual boot with linux, but not only was I unable to perform the dual boot, but I wasn't able to enter Xp, as well.
It took me some time to get it working, but I managed to boot properly!
Thanks a lot..... You have made it simple for everyone to follow.... Great help..... and it works..... Thanks and keep it up.....
@Anonymous
I'm not sure why but the blinking cursor means its trying to boot off the usb drive (which is good) but not succeeding (which is bad). I would say:
# Try making it again: http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrmoreinfo/usbscreenshots.htm
# Try a different USB drive
# Try the CD solution (if your broken computer has a CD drive)
# Go ahead and move on to the backup solution of pulling the drive, backing up the contents, and reinstalling. Sorry :-(
Hey what should I do if I get the message "Windows has disabled direct disk access to protect your long filenames" after I boot up the flash drive and press Y?
Thanks
nice work man from Greece with love!
I've got one word for you: THANKS!
Cheers from Norway.
Love always,
Robin
@Robin Wow! Thanks :-) I'll have to put that up in my office.
@anonymous post on 1/11/11 I found out that that error comes up when the boot usb disk does not recognize the disks in the order i "assumed" they would be in. I have put updated step by step instructions here:
http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrmoreinfo/usbscreenshots
Thankyou. It took me about half an hour to do. Very well explained, and I think it's great that you've put this advice up. You're a good person for doing that. Thankyou.
thanks so much man! your walkthrough is very thorough and easy to follow, i really appreciate it! keep it up!
yes yes you saved my machine.,. wow all works perfectly. i am sending a little gift via paypal. BRAVO BRAVO cisco in mexico

Awesome.. it worked for me.. Thanks a lot..
Great job man! Worked for me with the second solution, and with the usb boot. I will donate, you deserve it! Just out of curiosity, what is the 2nd solution actually? what was my problem?
Man, you deserve the donation. You fixed my computer. Thanks a lot.
Computer wouldn't boot, black screen with blinking white cursor. FixNTLDR got me in, Combofix and Malware Bytes got rid of fake WindowsRepair, then used WXP CD, in Repair modeto do FIXMBR and FIXBOOT.
Thank you for your fix for this problem. It came as a result of a failed backup using Macrium Reflect that corrupted the MBR. Excellent! :)
